Disconnect from QuickBooks
Effective 1 January 2026 · Pingtail Partners
You can revoke our access to your QuickBooks Online company at any time, without asking us and without notice. Doing so stops all further reading of your books immediately. Nothing below requires our cooperation.
1. If we were added as an accounting firm
This is the usual arrangement for a bookkeeping engagement — you invited us as an accountant user rather than installing software.
- Sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin.
- Select the gear icon, then Manage Users.
- Open the Accounting Firms tab.
- Find Pingtail and select Delete or Remove.
Access ends the moment you confirm. You do not need to tell us, and we cannot prevent it.
2. If we were connected as an app
Where the connection was made through our internal tool rather than an accountant invitation, it is listed among your connected apps.
- Sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin.
- Go to Apps, then My Apps.
- Find the Pingtail connection and select Disconnect.
QuickBooks revokes our tokens at that point, and our stored copies of them are erased. Our systems treat the connection as dead from the next request onward and do not attempt to re-establish it.
3. Or ask us to do it
Write to dipa@pingtail.com and we will revoke access from our side and confirm once it is done. This is offered as a convenience — it is not a step you have to take, and it is not faster than doing it yourself.
4. If you want to reconnect later
Disconnecting is not a decision you have to get right the first time — nothing about it is permanent, and reconnecting takes a minute.
Because our bookkeeping tool is internal rather than an app you install yourself, there is no self-service reconnect button. Write to dipa@pingtail.com and we will send you a fresh connection link. Opening it takes you to QuickBooks' own approval screen, where you choose the company and confirm — exactly as you did the first time. If we were working as your accounting firm instead, re-invite us under Manage Users and access resumes.
A new connection issues new tokens. It does not restore anything deleted in the meantime, so if you have also asked us to delete your records, tell us before reconnecting.
5. What happens to your data
Revoking access stops any further reading of your books straight away. Records already held are handled as set out in our Privacy Policy.
If you want those records deleted as well, say so — disconnecting and deleting are separate requests, because a client mid-cleanup usually wants the working record kept. Deletion is completed within 30 days of the request; see Data Deletion for what is covered and what we are obliged to retain.
Your books themselves are untouched by any of this. Everything we do is recorded so it can be reviewed, and nothing we hold is needed for your QuickBooks company to keep working.
